Inspired by the “Toile des Indes”, fabrics that were brought back to Europe by the by the VOC (The Dutch East India Company), C.P. Oberkampf decided to print fabric in his factory in Jouy en Josas. Using the block-printing tecnique, a pattern of romantic scenes was printed onto cotton. The first time fabric was to be printed in Europe.

The pattern of this “toile” is 18th century, the fabric itself is 19th century and comes from a “lit a la polonaise”.
